The acoustic quality on the 603 Clinician is superb. What I think really contributes to this is how great the silicone earpieces fit in the ear canal, creating a tight seal that blocks out the hustle and bustle of the hospital setting. Littmann scopes tend to have a slightly higher acoustic quality than those made by ADC, and that is definitely the case again here. However, I like having this one in the hospital since it is durable and functional and due to the low price I don’t mind if it “walks” away from me as some of my Littmann’s tend to if I dare bring them into the ER. Very faint pulses can be heard clearly with the 603.
The 603 Clinician was made for rugged daily use, and it shows. The tension spring connecting the binaurals can go through thousands of adjustment cycles before becoming worn out, to the point where I’m fairly certain anything less than a lifetime warranty means you’d never have the chance to send it back for a new one at all. The tubing is made from flexible PVC and all other parts from stainless steel. It is a no nonsense stethoscope, and for that I applaud the American Diagnostic Corporation.
Ease of use
What’s great about the 603 Clinician is the 31 inch tubing, it allows more freedom of movement for the clinician to access a patient and allows a more comfortable distance between patient and healthcare professional. That, coupled with the tunable diaphragm and comfortable silicone earpieces makes this stethoscope extremely quick and easy to use.
I would absolutely recommend the 603 Clinician to anyone who needs a functional and durable stethoscope for daily use. Some of my colleagues absolutely swear by this model for both the comfort and durability it allows. One of my colleagues even says he hasn’t had issues using it in a moving ambulance, that surprised me. Not to be rude, but the 31 inch tubing comes in handy when dealing with patients with hygiene issues as well. Even the faintest of pulses can be easily auscultated with this stethoscope. In conclusion, for the price this is an absolutely fantastic stethoscope and I highly recommend it.
